Bicalutamide:-

Bicalutamide is a hormone therapy. It is classified as an anti-androgen. Often given in combination with LHRH agonist, another type of hormone therapy. Casodex. Drug class and mechanism: bicalutamide is an oral medication that is used for treating cancer of the prostate. It belongs to a class of drugs called anti-androgens which includes flutamide (eulexin) and nilutamide (nilandron). Androgens are hormones that are produced and released by the adrenal glands. They are responsible for supporting (stimulating) tissues that primarily are thought of as male, for example, the male prostate gland. Male traits that also are influenced by androgens include facial and body hair and small breasts. Anti-androgens prevent the action of androgens by blocking the receptors for androgens on the cells of tissues, for example, the cells of the prostate gland. In addition to normal prostate cells, androgens also have been shown to stimulate the growth of cancer cells within the prostate. Bicalutamide is thought to prevent the growth of prostate cancer by blocking the effects of androgens on the cancer cells.

Additional Information :

The suggested dose for Bicalutamide Tablets, USP therapy in blend with an LHRH referend is one 50 mg tablet one time daily (morning or evening). These tablets must be taken whole with liquid.

Metabolic and Nutritional: BUN increased; edema; dehydration; gout; creatinine increased; hypercholesteremia
Musculoskeletal: leg cramps, myalgia
Nervous: confusion; somnolence; hypertonia; neuropathy; libido decreased; nervousness
Respiratory: asthma; epistaxis; lung disorder; sinusitis
Skin and Appendages: alopecia; pruritus; dry skin; skin carcinoma; herpes zoster; skin disorder
Special Senses: cataract specified
Urogenital: urinary urgency; dysuria; urinary tract disorder, hydronephrosis

Serious hepatic changes and hepatic fiasco have been detected infrequently. Examine serum transaminase levels before you start treatment with Bicalutamide Tablets, USP, at consistent intervals for the initial four months of treatment and infrequently afterward, and for Indications suggestive of hepatic dysfunction. Take Bicalutamide Tablets, USP with attention in people with hepatic impairment.
